USA clinches a thrilling win over Israel

USA came from behind to secure a place in the semi-final in the World University Games. From trailing behind via eight points in the third quarter to outscoring Israel in the overtime, it sure was a memorable match. With a score of 111-107 USA defeated the odds in many rounds to overcome a tough Israeli team. Perdue, the team representing USA, has set up an exciting semi-final clash against Serbia. The head coach of USA, Matt Painter, was very happy with the team’s performance. He was all in praises for Carson Edwards who netted 36 points for the team. The USA team had some excellent three pointers with Carson Edwards scoring 8 and senior P.J. Thompson five. The third quarter saw Perdue make a comeback again with Edwards spear heading with 18 points. The whole situation turned one way or another before a tie score of 97 sent the teams into overtime. Perdue then scored a sensational 14-10 extra time victory to secure the win.


Springfield honours former basketball player

An unfortunate incident took place on May 7th, 2017. Shawn Ragland a student and star basketball player at the Springfield High School lost his life to a shooting. This Sunday, many students, families and teachers gathered at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield for the commencement of the very first annual Shawn Ragaland Summer League Classic Championship. This tournament is initiated in the memory of Shawn and his love for basketball. Shawn’s brother Robert Bolden and the rest of his family started this tournament to give back to the community. This tournament will also provide chances for players of all ages to participate and compete. The former coach, Chris Gerber was happy and excited with the idea of this tournament and feels this is the perfect way to honour the memory of Shawn Ragaland.


Colorado forward commits to Bulldogs

It looks like the new coach of Drake Bulldogs has been busy since his appointment last month. Niko Medved who was just hired last month has secured the commitment of Adam Thistlewood. It looks Thistlewood chose Drake over Northern Colorado, Davidson and Colorado State.  At 6 foot 7 and 180 pounds, Thistlewood is a forward for Golden, Colorado. He has an average of 18.9 points per game with 6.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game last season. This will surely be a plus for Drake as they also have six more scholarship spots free for the upcoming season.


Maccabi announces Parakhouski as its latest signing

Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv announced a new signing on a Sunday afternoon. The team had managed to land the giant Artsiom Parakhouski, standing at 2.11 meters and 29 years of age. He enjoyed a decent last season in Unics Kazan.
